Pismo Pulse Pickers brochure - Pismo 8-1-1 manual - Del Mar Photonics
I have received funding to buy a pulse picker. Our main application is
selection of pulses from a ~ 100 MHz, 20 fs Ti:Sapphire laser (nJ/pulse energy
levels), for which your Pismo 8/1 looks like the proper choice.
We might also wish to use the pulse picker on another application, which is to flip the polarization of a 1 kHz, 0.5 mJ amplified Ti:Sapphire laser (50 fs compressed pulse duration; it may be possible to operate on the uncompressed ~150 ps duration output as well). We would be flipping the polarization on alternating pulses (i.e. 500 Hz). I would like your comments on the technical feasibility of using the Pismo 8/1 for this application. If you feel that a larger aperture or other modifications are necessary, could you please also provide an estimate of cost on delivery on the modified item as well as on your standard product?
We look to issue a Purchase Order within the next few weeks.
Del Mar Photonics comments:
1) Full second-order dispersion of the pulse picker system (two Glan prisms (8x2=16 mm of calcite and electro-optical crystal, 16 mm of DKDP) is about 2100 fs^2. For example, the 100 fs (or 50 fs) input pulse (Gaussian pulse shape) at 800 nm will be chirped after the pulse picker system and will have duration about 115 fs (or 127 fs). Please see dispersion graph of dependence of input pulse duration and output pulse duration. Is it possible to introduce negative dispersion of this value in your setup before steering the pulses into the picker? We also have a pulse stretcher/compressor solution to do this if you are interested.
2) The second application can be fulfilled can be done with the same Pismo 8/1, however, you will need an external electrical TTL trigger signal. The external trigger signal must lead the optical pulse by 0.25-3 Ás and must be strictly locked to the optical train with jitter less than 200 ps. But if you have an amplifier, you can usually get such signal from its electronics.
